About TMC Fees

Monash University pays fees to a Travel Management company ( TMC ) for the services they provide. Traditionally, this has been a management fee that is a set percentage of the net fare. This has been the case in the past with former providers (AMEX and Kistend Travel) and more recently with HRG Australia.

New fee structure for Monash from July 2007

With the introduction of Voyager Travel Corporation in July 2007, Monash University has opted to move to a transaction fee model whereby we will pay set fees for particular service types. This is deemed to be a fairer system whereby the fee is linked to the time required to deliver the service rather than to the cost of the ticket. Many corporate organisations in Australia and the world are adopting a flat transaction fee model.

Note: Although Monash originally had a management fee model with HRG, this will also change to transaction fee model from July 2007.

About transaction fees

Transaction fees depend on the level of service provided and can vary according to the provider. The fees for Monash University have been set between university and provider in a covering agreement. In simple terms, the cost of an international, consultant assisted booking is higher than for a domestic, consultant assisted booking. If you book your ticket online yourself then you would expect the fee to be lower again and this is the case with our agreements with HRG and Voyager.
